Captain's Pick

Which formats and side games does Captain's Pick support?

Last updated

Every round has a format (how the round is played) and a scoring rule (how it feeds the trip: match points for a Ryder Cup, or position points for a points trip). Side games run on top and never touch trip points.

Round formats

  • Four-Ball (best ball), 2 v 2. Everyone plays their own ball; the lower net score on each hole counts for the side. Match play, 90% allowance.
  • Four-Ball Stroke Play. Same best-ball scoring, totalled over 18 holes instead of match status.
  • Singles, 1 v 1 match play at 100%.
  • Stroke Play. Everyone for themselves; gross and net totals, position points for a points trip.
  • Foursomes (alternate shot), 2 v 2, one ball per side, 50% of combined handicap.
  • Chapman. Both tee off, swap drives, then alternate to the hole. 60/40 team handicap.
  • 2-Man and 4-Man Scramble, as a match or a stroke total, with the USGA scramble handicap split.
  • Team Quota, 2 v 2. Points per hole (bogey 1, par 2, birdie 4, eagle 8) against a combined quota of 36 minus course handicap per player; the side furthest over its quota wins the match.

Side games

  • Skins. Lowest net (or gross) score on a hole wins the skin; ties carry over. Per round or trip-wide pots, computed from the scores automatically.
  • Low net and Low gross. Lowest total for the round.
  • Snake. Three-putts, tapped on the hole; the last one holding it pays.
  • Closest to the pin, longest drive, longest putt. Decided on the hole and recorded there, with a pot per challenge.
  • Custom hole event. Your own tally (sandies, water balls, whatever your group counts), tapped on the hole.

Each game shows its results and payouts on the Side Games tab and flows into the settle-up. On the roadmap, not yet scoreable in the app: Nassau, Stableford and Wolf.
